Interactive activities with the Avatar: tips, entertainment, reminders, physical and mental exercises
"Mario's Friend" is an R&D project created to address the needs of a society with a rising average age and a growing number of elderly people who face the daily challenges of loneliness and physical decline, which can lead to depression and subsequent cognitive decline. It provides support for physical and emotional sensory stimulation to boost self-esteem and offers moments of entertainment and information through direct and interactive engagement.
I know you, and every day I learn something new about you and your needs. This is the message that "Mario's Friend" wants to convey to its users
The increasing incidence of age-related diseases, including cognitive degeneration, represents a growing challenge for the healthcare system and society as a whole. It requires a coordinated and strategic response to address and prevent the consequences of cognitive illnesses, thereby ensuring adequate support for the elderly and their families. The “Mario's Friend” project has the potential to generate an interesting healthcare ROI, in addition to deserving recognition for its contribution to health awareness in the community.
To support the autonomy of the elderly in their own homes, an operational network is emerging among municipalities, nursing homes (RSA), and companies in the Lombardy region with the aim of promoting projects that provide solutions for the well-being of the elderly, thereby shifting the need for admission to a nursing home (RSA) over time, resulting in significant economic savings for the assisted individuals, their families, and also for the community.
Thanks to a configuration carefully tailored to each resident’s memories, interests, and life experiences, the avatar Sara is able to create meaningful and engaging interactions: she shares anecdotes that resonate with the senior’s past, stimulates memory by recalling people and moments from earlier times, offers encouragement at the right moments, and provides activities for both cognitive and motor stimulation. She also proves to be of remarkable practical use: promptly reminding of appointments and solving small everyday dilemmas… such as finding those elusive glasses that always seem to disappear!
